GIMP - creating trifold brochure

Using Ubuntu 10.10 and Gimp 2.6. I need to create a 3 panel brochure (2 folds, 2 sided, 8.5'x11", landscape). Is there a way to do this in GIMP? Is there a template for the "tripanel 2 sides, full bleed" or is there a way to set up 2 pages with guides for the folds?

I've already created it in Word 2010, but would rather do a Linux solution and deliver it to the offset printer this way.

Any thoughts?

Duane

The Gimp isn't the best choice for this I think. You'd better look after Scribus or OpenOffice.org Draw

Yes, scribus or inkscape are better options, even draw is good.

OK ... many thanks. I have it in a Word 2010 (.docx) format now. Will a printer (offset printing press) be able to use any formats that Scribus or OpenOffice can create?

Well, both can output to ps or pdf, so ... yeah maybe it will work (don't know what offset printing press is or what it can print).

PDF is a standard way of sending material to a printer. Other formats are rather hit or miss. Every Linux program program that can print can produce PDFs. Scribus and others can do it better than most.

as much as i like gimp ( been building it since 2002)
for this OO-Draw or scribus or inkscape would be a bit better.

Thank you all for the responses. I see that Scribus is much better suited to this application than is Gimp. Both are great at what they do. I did the brochure in Scribus and used Gimp for editing some of the images. I was able to recreate the entire brochure with the exception of the insertion of a transparent background to one image. (Operator error).

Thanks again.

When you get your business cards printed, or letterhead, or a brochure, it is most likely done on an offset press. There is "engraving", "offset" and "digital" which are the most used forms of printing.

cheers,
