giFT is being silly

hello there,

I have been using giFT for quite sometime and I've always found it to be incredibly unstable (connection-wise). For instance when i run 'giftd' the daemon for gift it will take a few minutes to initialise with all the other peers etc... however the number of online users can be anything from 5000 to 2 in just a matter of seconds. It continually changes and can sometimes go an hour with me being the only one online, what the hell is wrong here? I thought it may have been my firewall rules, but nope, I turn these off and the problem still occurs.

I'm running 'giftd' on my main machine, as well as giFTcurs for my frontend. I also go through a NAT server which does all my internet connection stuff. There was an option to do with firewalled or NAT'ed clients in 'gift-setup' so I made my choice reflecting that but alas gift still has this problem. Would this problem have anything to do with the way giFT communicates with other nodes to gather information about other users and so on?

Thanks for your help in advance.

get the fasttrack plugin, you get millions of users and you wont notice when the gnutella users mysteriously disapear

I've no idea why that's happening to you, though giftd is kind of flakey for me too, lots of disconnects and server crashes (giftd - not my computer), in fact I dont think giftd has managed to run continuously longer than one week on my box, I've been thinking about giving daemontools a go just to keep gift running
