giFT can't find libgift.so.0 ?!?!

First I tried installing Apollon, but it just froze after asking for root pswd, so I decided to do everything from source.

The install went fine, with no errors, and I got giFT configured fine...but when I tried running 'giftd' it came up with this:

Code:
#giftd
giftd: error while loading shared libraries: libgift.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I checked, and found that this file was installed at /usr/local/lib
Here is the listing showing links...everything looks fine to me.

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 802 May 30 15:38 libgift.la*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 May 30 15:38 libgift.so -> libgift.so.0.0.0*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 May 30 15:38 libgift.so.0 -> libgift.so.0.0.0*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 436299 May 30 15:38 libgift.so.0.0.0*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 858 May 30 15:38 libgiftproto.la*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 May 30 15:38 libgiftproto.so -> libgiftproto.so.0.0.0*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 May 30 15:38 libgiftproto.so.0 -> libgiftproto.so.0.0.0*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 82925 May 30 15:38 libgiftproto.so.0.0.0*

so why doesn't giFT find it?

Ok I fixed the previous error, now I'm getting more errors. I think I had seen these errors elsewhere on the forum so I'll check there first

Sorry, I should have known better.

I'm afraid I don't remember how I did it...but I do remember it was not too complicated. If I remember anything I'll post it. I do remember one of the problems was solved pretty easily...once I figured out what it was. I'll see if I can figure it out...but now that I have it installed it will be hard to redo.

EDIT:
Actually, I think I had to run depmod -a or something like that...whatever it was I remember that I figured that the path was already in /etc/ld.so.conf, but this was not good enough. So before installing Apollon, but after installing giFT, I had to run something...I'm a little tired right now, so I can't remember what I would have ran, though depmod -a does sound familiar. I also had to make sure I was su or not...either being su or being a regular user caused additional errors.

If you really want to be safe, after installing giFT, restart Linux...then install Apollon via source.

I hope this was what I did...this may have been for something else...but it can't hurt to try right?

If it works, or you figure out how to make it work would you mind posting how you did it...sorry about not doing that the first time.
