"Ghosts" in the machine

I have been playing with an different versions of to see which one I prefer.

I installed mathematica on mandrake 10.1, I then tried out SUSE 9.3 and tried to reinstall mathematica. the installer for mathematica kept finding a previous license file which I am assuming is from the previous mandrake distro.

So my question is: How do I get rid of the "ghost" in the machine so I can happily install mathematica again.

My best guess: delete the license file.

Read ESR's `Smart Questions' faq.

Did you format the whole system between Mandrake and Suse? Or just some parts? If so, what partitions were left? Do you see any mathematica-related config files in your user dir?

I deleted all license files I could find but it still came up with the same problem.

I only formatted the linux part of the system and left the windows partition alone, would this make a difference?

I doubt it. What is the exact content of the message it gives you?

The installer said that a previous mathpass had been foundand to remove that mathpass before I installed again.

It's a work PC which isn't connected to the internet so I can't copy and paste the message here.
