I've been trying to get the Kopete messenger chat windows to flash when they receive a new message and are not the active window- MSN Messenger-style.
I've tried fiddling with the KNotify settings, but I can't find anything that remotely suggests that I could do it. I'm using the new version of Kopete (8.0), on SuSE 9.0 and I've only had Linux up and running for two days now... so if you've got any ideas, please spell them out very clearly!
^ It's a shame, because other than that I really like Kopete. Audio/webcam/user pictures etc might be nice in future versions, but I can live without them. It's flashing windows I really need.
No I haven't.. but to be honest I didn't really looked. Just what came with Suse 9.0. I'll take a look around though see what I can dig up. I'd like one with the picture feature also... have no web-cam.
I am also having a problem using multiple login names.. can't seem to log onto it as just one single user, instead it shows all contacts for every user. to fix this I just deleted all other users, but I mean thats a bad solution.
I've downloaded the latest version of Kopete and installed it- it does now include a function for seeing user pictures but I don't think it lets you set your own. Their website says that it's possible to get the taskbar to flash using KNotify... but I can't find anything that tells me how.
say there are multiple users for kopete (Me, brother, room-mate). We all want to be able to log in but for some reason when I make a profile for them it seems to combine them together (all my contacts are on their contact lists and vise versa).
So (to make it more clear)
When I log in under my name I see all their contacts and can chat with them. I don't want their contacts and they don't want mine.
do you have this problem?
I will search for a newer version maybe that is my problem
Flashing the taskbar entries seems to happen automatically when you upgrade to KDE 3.2 though. KNotify in that version of KDE includes a facility to flash the taskbar when a new message comes through.
Maybe it's worth upgrading to KDE 3.2, as it includes Kopete's latest version and might fix your problem too?
Originally posted by innova I will look into the update thanks.
I have found a better messenger (In my opinion) called amsn. Here's a link for you to look at.
It works good but I am having a problem with seeing the other persons display picture. They can see mine.
the tool bar dosn't flash either, but it does animate the words.
check it out you might like it

Yeah, I tried aMSN. It only does MSN Messenger though, and I have contacts on 6 of the 7 networks Kopete offers- plus Kopete does do display pics and now flashes taskbar entries, so it's sorted for me
6 out of 7 eh? thats a lot. I guess you would want kopete. I am using both right now (overkill I know).
I don't know why I can't get the pictures to show. starting to get on my nerves. I'm sure I will get it but its low on the list of things. right now I'm trying to get my printer working (which I am finding to be a pain in the A$$).
