Getting other partitions to mount on start up

Hey,

I recently upgraded from XP to Ubuntu Netbook remix.

I deleted my windows partition after finding out i could do everything i needed in windows from a VM. now I want to use my free space from deleting windows partitions. I have formatted them and now store my files(music, videos, pics, downloads, etc) but i would like to allow it to mount automatically since i have my vm hard drives and machines on one of the spare partitions. also i would like to figure out how to increase the time that my admin password is stored when i have to install or remove a program or run certain programs.

You nrrf to add the new partition to your /etc/fstab file. The format should be pretty straightforward from the existing entries and you can also read the fstab manpage. Basically, the format is:

<device> <mount point> <filesystem type> <options> <fs freq> <fsck order>

You can read more about these in the fstab man page. Usually 0 and 2 are fine for the fs freq and fsck order.

For the admin password, if you're using sudo there's a parameter "timestamp_timeout" in /etc/sudoers that determines how often you must re-authenticate. I'm not sure how it works if you're going through something like kdesu, as I don't use that, only sudo :-).
