Getting Nvidia 3d driver after compiling kernel using apt-get

I just got my kernel-2.6.8 working using apt-get install kernel-image-2.6.8. I want to install the Nvidia 3d driver, but the kernel requires a symbolic link to the kernel source tree, which when I have used other methods ends up in /usr/src/ pointing to another directory in /usr/src like /usr/src/2.x.x/

However, when I compiled using apt-get install kernel-image-2.6.8-k7 the source doesn't land in /usr/src, and nvidia needs the link to compile right. Anyone have any idea where it ends up?

/usr/src/linux > kernel-2.6.8

linux is a symlink pointing to the $VERSION

Yes, yes, I know what it's supposed to do, the think is I don't know where the source directory is.
That's what I need help with.

ln -s ****source directory**** /usr/src/linux

I need the location of the source directory to complete the link, and since I compiled with apt-get install kernel-image-2.6.8-k7 I don't know where it is.
