getting default kernel config

Hi, Just installed debian ...

there are no kernel sources in /usr/src, how do i 'dump' the current kernel config? (like usually in /usr/src/linux/.config) ?....

would installing kernel-source-x.x or something do it?

Cheers

/proc/config.gz (or maby its .tgz)

EDIT: It is /proc/config.gz

I believe that all debian kernels support the proc config file. I know my Debian box that i just installed with the rc2 installer did (I used 2.6)

I dont much like Initrd kernels or any pre-compiled kernel for that matter. Unless the device is removable i dont want its driver to be a module so i always custom compile a kernel.

unfortunately /proc/config.[t]gz doesn't exist....

nor do any sources in /usr/src, so its literally just the kernel binary! grr.... just wanted to do a make oldconfig, as the box is running very nicely on the stock kernel. As you say, wanna remove some stuff, but not too much to not make it run as nicely as it is at the mo ...
