Lightbulb Here you go

Control Center, like start in windoze, then Applications/File Tools/File Manager - Super user. Put in you password, for root. For the file you want, in the location bar type in file:/etc. Then look for the file. When you click on it, it should open in Kwrite with root privledges.

Be carefull in there. Do not set the default init to 1 or 6. 1 will shutdown as soon as it starts and 6 will reboot in a loop.

Hope this helps.

There is no way to gain root privileges if you don't already have them.
You clearly stated in your post that you don't have access to this part of the system, so I would have to assume your not the owner of this system, so there is no way anyone here will help you gain access illegally. This would be along the same lines as you trying to hack or crack into a system illegally, even if you have physical access to this machine, I'm afraid no one here will be able to help you on this one.

If you are the owner of the system, well then, how come you don't have access to the inittab file? Its simply a: su
And then you put in root's password to access and administer your machine.

Exclamation No file to edit

You don't need to edit a file to have root access. You have to have the password. Even if there was a file you would have to already have root access to change the file. If you don't have the password you're in trouble. I have never been in a position to have to do it and don't know how.
