getting a zip opener.....

hey guys, im trying to download a KDE style and some guys put them in zips, whats a good linux zip app that will unzip it? is there an addon for archiver? thanks.

Archiver SHOULD support it, well it does for me, i'm not sure if you can do it from command line as i haven't done it, but i'm sure the gurus around here will give you more info :D

man unzip ;)

Not even man unzip, simply unzip filename.zip

Cool

As you are using KDE try opening it with Konqueror. It will unzip it for you.

Cheers
:p

you need to have unzip installed - I am not sure if that gets installed by default with debian. If you got a password protected file karchiver will not work.
Atool is nice for unpacking. On installation it checks what you got on your system (unzip, unrar, tar ...) and then handles everything. All you do is type aupack /filename

this is KDE 2.2, is zip/unzip supported in KDE 3? im prolly gonna upgrade today since i got a couple hours. :)

crashmeister 10-04-2002 05:32 PM

I don't know about zip.But unzip doesn't have anything to do with your kde version. If you upgrade a debian box to KDE3 you probably gonna have other problems to worry about anyway ;-)

kmistry 10-04-2002 09:17 PM

lol, im stranded with my windows partition, the installation went horribly wrong!

i tried reinstalling but i cant get after the 2nd stage installation, it hangs when it starts that up. (config and stuff) its really really being annoying.

crashmeister 10-05-2002 04:12 AM

When things already start breaking you can try to install KDE3.1beta - that should be the final blow :-0
Seriously - if you can't get that install problem fixed it's probably best to start a new thread about it and post whatever errormsg you get if any.

sure thing, im mainly gonna have my neighbor help me. ive got debian all installed. i installed Xfree86 and other apps ecept KDE or Gnome, theres some window mangers on like the basic TVM. however my neighbor configures X for me, i have no idea what he does but im glad he does it! lol thanks for your help guys.

nonethless, back to the point, archiver should open zip files but it needs some kind of extension of some sorts to open zips. whres the ark homepage etc?

crashmeister 10-05-2002 11:07 AM

There's a deb that's called unzip. That should be all it needs.

kmistry 10-06-2002 10:52 AM

k, i did the apt-ge, TY all of ya'll.

oh and KDE 3.0.3 (stable) is working fine on debian-sid. beta 2 was just too much for me to handle so i just did a simple apt-get for KDE 3.0.3. thanks guys!

crashmeister 10-06-2002 11:30 AM

Just trashed my unstable debian with kde3.1-beta.
I'll get that sucker some day though - not today.
