Get SuSE Linux to load on older RAID 5 system

I have an older HP NetServer LH3 with SCO Linux loaded on it. Works fine. Need to load Version 8.? in it's place as the O/S for an odd reason. The SuSE CDROM set does not find any hard drives ( there are three SCSI's in it ).

Any suggestions about how to get around the HP NetRaid controller?

TIA

Since I'm not familiar with the HP NetServer hardware nor with the SCO operating sytem I'm obviously qualified to address this problem.

I would definitely try running the SuSE live CD/DVD to see what it can find. Then if it works you can look at the modules that it loaded in order to see the disks.

1) Load the SuSE live CD/DVD

2) Look for the disks.
Code:
fdisk -l
  or
hwinfo > t.tmp
less t.tmp
3) If the live CD/DVD can see the disks then see what modules it has loaded. Hopefully it needed to load a module to see the disks. If the driver is in the kernel then this won't help.
Code:
lsmod
  or
cat /proc/modules | sort
If that doesn't work then see if the HP card uses a proprietary driver on the SCO system. You could look at the HP web site or the SCO web site, if it still exists.

Thanks ...

... for the reply. I did find this elsewhere:

HP NetRaid Controller:

PROBLEM: scsi drives have different lunīs, not different scsi idīs.

SOLUTION: force kernel lun-probing e.g. with the kernel parameter append="max_scsi_luns=128" in lilo.con

... Not sure if that will do it. Haven't tried your suggestion or the force kernel yet. Will keep forum appraised.

Thanks.

Ref: my HP NetRaid Controller question ...

I got past this by disabling the NetRaid in the BIOS. The SuSe O/S then found the disks. I loaded the O/S and got everything set up including the expert partitioning for raid and lvm.

Thanks for the responses. Now I'm in the process of loading the Informix engine, db's, etc...

Once agaain, thanks.
