gentoo kernel compile error
 

hi,
i'm trying to install gentoo linux. i booted with the liveCD, completed all the steps until the kernel compilation successfully. the genkernel that i downloaded using emerge is 3.0beta i think(the latest from the portage tree). but when i type genkernel all the process dies unexpectedly. it compiles the bzIMage, but during the compilation of the modules it stops and exits giving a message..something like gen_die(): modules compile failed.
from portage i downloaded for a kernel gentoo-sources.
i think that's all.

which gentoo-sources version did you download? if its a 2.4.x flavor you may want to try a genkernel downgrade to 1.8 or 2. it works more stable for 2.6.x kernels you have to use genkernel 3.x

i fixed the problem. i use a kernel 2.4.22-gentoo-r5 and the genkernel version was 3.0.1-beta4-3. i used the menuconfig option, removed the modules i didn't needed to speed up the compilation and changed the processor type from 386 to the Athlon(cause that's my processor) and this did the trick :)
