Let's make something clear, what on Earth do you mean by "installing Gentoo from Ubuntu"?
That said, whatever you're doing, Gentoo's bootloader must be installed on the Gentoo's root partition, then you must add an entry in Ubuntu's bootloader assuming you have it installed on the MBR. You will do that by editing /boot/grub/menu.lst file.
Thank you for your response, that answers my question perfectly as to what I meant by, "Installing Gentoo from Ubuntu" I mean that I'm preforming the Gentoo install through a chrooted environment from within my ubuntu partition
