Hello all, I just put together my AMD64 3400+ system and I am now trying to install Gentoo 2004.1. I tried all weekend to installk from stage 1 only to end in gcc complie errors. I then tried a stage 2 install and now I get a seg. fault when it tries to build python-fchksum. Now all I get is a seg. fault when I try to run emerge again. Anybody have any luck installing gentoo. Any help would be great.
where did you get your Gentoo from? if you downloaded it from the net (isos) and burned to cds yourself, did you make sure the checksums are ok (in other words: are your sure your installation cds are not corrupt)?
I d/loaded my own isos and burned them, and didn't bother to look at the checksums (stupid me)..my install disc was somehow corrupted, it run ok except that the installation jammed somewhere before the end :/ I had to re-download it to get it work.
but, if you have checked your discs...then I've got no clue.
Are you installing the 64 bit or the 32 bit version? And what compiler version do you use - if it is 64 bit and 3.4 you might want to try with something from 3.3.x
I am using gcc 3.3.3 with 64 bit. I think it might have something to do with memory. I currently have the speed set to auto. When I get home I am going to try 333 and see what happens.
I went into my bios and limited my memory to DDR333 and bootstrap work without problems. I now emerging the system. I hope it goes well. I will keep you all posted.
