LinuxQuestions.org - gentoo 2007.0 fontconfig-2.5.0 autoconf error

i'm trying to compile GNOME from a chrooted environment, (gentoo env in ubuntu 7.10) but gtk+ refuses to compile, i decided to try and emerge gtk+ but one of its dependancies fontconfig-2.5.0 gets to autoconf and fails
