GDM screenshot

Hi all! I'm trying to take a screenshot of the GDM greeter screen under GNOME 2.2 (in Red Hat 9). I undestand that I would need Xnest, but I don't seem able to find the package, and I know I don't have the binary of Xnest. gdmXnest doesn't work either. Does anyone know in what RH package is the Xnest binary included? Thanks a lot in advance.

Thetargos.

In a terminal window type: locate Xnest. It should tell you where it is.

Problem is, I do have gdmXnest binary under /usr/X11R6/bin, but not Xnest binary... realy odd.

Whenever I try to start gdmXnest or gdmXnestchooser I get this error:

Code:

(gdmXnestchooser:8816): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting
to session manager:Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the
authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based
authentication failed.
DISPLAY=:20

** (gdmXnestchooser:8819): WARNING **: Can't exec, trying Xnest

** (gdmXnestchooser:8819): WARNING **: Can't exec that either, giving up

I know I'm missing Xnest, but I just don't know what package to download to install it. As I said, really odd.

Are you starting this from command line or gui?

From a gnome-terminal

Tryed to do so in init 3, though. With the same results.

Just switched to gnome and tried it. This is what I get.
gdmXnest
DISPLAY=:20

** (gdmXnest:19718): WARNING **: Can't exec, trying Xnest

** (gdmXnest:19718): WARNING **: Can't exec that either, giving up

twilli227 07-07-2003 09:22 PM

This is my output: locate Xnest
/usr/bin/gdmXnestchooser
/usr/bin/gdmXnest

The above listing was as root. But the very same message (as yours) comes up if I do that as user.

Thetargos 07-07-2003 09:24 PM

See?, there is no plain Xnest .

twilli227 07-07-2003 09:30 PM

Is there a gui tool to do this? I can't seem to find it. There is one in KDE.

Thetargos 07-07-2003 09:31 PM

The only there is, would be gdmconfig.

Check out this site:http://linuxcommand.org/man_pages/Xnest1.html
Check under usage. This should help you start it.

Thanks. Hope this works.
