gcc missing crt.o . I cannot compile anything.

hi all,

I've tried the configure scripts from Afterstep (1.8 and 2.0.0), aterm, and a bunch of other open-source downloads. All of them get sad when I run them because gcc (or it could be ld, I'm not sure) can't find crt.o . I could be wrong on that file name; I' on Windows at the moment. I can post logs/error output if that helps.

How can I fix/workaround this problem to compile my programs?

Thanks,
-pcweirdo.

hey,

sorry for the delay in my reply, I've had trouble getting my internet connection to work. Here's the output of several things. config.log has info about my system. Feel free to ask for more if it'll help.

Thanks for your help,
-pcweirdo.

Qwirt 10-17-2004 05:29 AM

Your problem happened to me a while ago, when I first installed linux. It took weeks of searching and asking around for me to figure it out - I almost completely lost faith in linux.
Anyway, here it goes:
1.) Install 'glibc-devel'.
2.) And thats it!
That should fix your problem.

pcweirdo 10-19-2004 05:44 AM

Cool. I didn't have that package. I went to
ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/fedora/core/....3-68.i386.rpm
and got that, but then I needed glibc-headers, and for that I need kernel-headers.

I'm currently downloading kernel-headers from http://rpmfind.net//linux/RPM/PLD/di....6-1.i386.html

I'm running Fedora Core 2 with kernel 2.6.5-1.358smp. Does it matter that this package is from a different distro? (It's the same kernel, right?)

-pcweirdo.

pcweirdo 10-23-2004 08:41 PM

insane cpp

Now my /lib/cpp is supposedly insane!

Is there a way to fix this short of downloading gcc again?

configure: exit 1

pcweirdo 10-24-2004 01:01 AM

I fixed my "insane" cpp my downloading the following packages:
libstdc++
libstdc++-devel
glibc-headers
glibc-kernheaders
glibc-devel
kernel-headers
(from rpmfind.net)

However, I am still unable to "compile simple C++ programs". It says I need libstd++-dev - i have libstdc++-devel, but apparently that's not enough for this configure script.

This is the last part of ./configure 's output:

configure: error: Your Installation isn't able to compile simple C++ programs.
Check config.log for details - if you're using a Linux distribution you might miss
a package named similiar to libstd++-dev.

See http://www.soundless-screams.net/pcw...log-24-10-2004 for my config.log

Anyone with any ideas or similar experiences, please help.
-pcweirdo.

pcweirdo 11-05-2004 08:42 PM

Success.

My problem was that libstdc++-3.3.3-7 wouldn't work with libstdc++-devel-3.4.2-6

It's now fixed. I'm very happy.

Thanks for the help,
-pcweirdo.
