Unhappy gcc, gcj, and java problems

Ok, so I upgraded to GCC 3.3 to play with the java (gcj), but I am having some problems.

The C, C++ compilers work fine, but not Java going to native code directly

Details:
-------------------------------------------
//Program - Test (HelloWorld.java)
public class HelloWorld {
public static void main(String [] args) {
System.out.println("Hello");
}
}
--------------------------------------

I can compile into byte code (class files) and then use Sun's JRE (1.4.1)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
[weppnesp@hildegard2 java]$ gcj -C HelloWorld.java
[weppnesp@hildegard2 java]$ java HelloWorld
Hello
---------------------------------------------------------------
WORKS!
but......

Now native compiling screws up:
-------------------------------------------------------------
[weppnesp@hildegard2 java]$ gcj -c HelloWorld.java
[weppnesp@hildegard2 java]$ gcj --main=HelloWorld HelloWorld.o
[weppnesp@hildegard2 java]$ a.out
Segmentation fault
------------------------------------------------------------
or
-----------------------------------------------------------
[weppnesp@hildegard2 java]$ gcj -C HelloWorld.java
[weppnesp@hildegard2 java]$ gcj --main=HelloWorld HelloWorld.class
[weppnesp@hildegard2 java]$ a.out
Segmentation fault
-----------------------------------------------------------
Anybody see this before, i did a rather standard install with options in the configure program for GCC, but this was my first upgrade.

Ok, also notice also no core dumps, so please tell me how to get them so i can use GDB. I tried to comment out the following in /etc/profile and then sourced it but no avail....
---------------------------------
# No core files by default
ulimit -S -c 0 > /dev/null 2>&1
---------------------------------

Cheers, Thanks in Advance. Steve
