gcc environment variables

I'd like to know what environment variables gcc uses, and where these are set. If anyone could enlighten me, or at least point me some direction, it would be greatly appreciated. I've looked over the first few thousand lines of the gcc man page without any luck, maybe someone has a better way of parsing it?

Thanks,

After some more exhaustive searching, I discovered that g++ uses the env vars:

CPATH
C_INCLUDE_PATH
CPLUS_INCLUDE_PATH
OBJC_INCLUDE_PATH

Not sure if these are set anywhere by default, though, after setting them in my .bashrc (concatenating what I needed), g++ complained a little about it. Also, they were blank until I set them, which leads me to believe defaults are also set in some other fashion.

Any further comment on the matter would be tremendously appreciated.

Thanks,
