gcc-cpp problems (Mandrake 10.1)

Hello,
I am having difficulties with my mandrake 10.1 I want to install pygtk-2.4.0 and python 2.4.1 for I can use gdesklets. My problem is I go into my terminal and then cd to the dir of these files and do as their installs say and type ./configure and it don't work correctly.

configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
See `config.log' for more details.

before it said cpp compiler fails sanity check. I read on another fourm it says that because I don't have a proper compiler so I donwloaded a new gcc-cpp and it changed messages. Can anyone point me in the direction of an RPM that will work correctly I have tried like 3 differnt ones, this is really getting frustrating but I guess tha tis half the fun..

Please help...

Thanks,

Dustin
