gcc-4.0.1 install error
 

Here's the error:
checking whether autoconf works... yes
configure: error:
*** These critical programs are missing or too old: as ld
*** Check the INSTALL file for required versions.

Now I understand that I need the programs as and ld, but I cant find them anywhere.
I get this error when running make install. PLEASE HELP!

Update:
Im trying to install firefox on a SUN-JDS distro based on SuSE linux. It says I need the GLIBC verson 2.3 but i need the gcc compiler to run that... this is an endless circle... a downword sprial. someone rescue me... please, please....
