gcc 3.2
I just did a gentooinstall with gcc 3.2.
First of all it took forever to compile compared to 2.95 - about double. Then a lot of apps don't work ok.I only checked mozilla and galeon so far but it's definitely a no-go. What I try to find out now is whether the trouble is gcc 3.2 or the flags I use to compile apps. I got a duron processor and use -march=athlon. From what I gathered that should be ok.With gcc 2.95 i used i686. Now I could try either the i686 flag with gcc 3.2 or use gcc 2.95 with i686 but since i compiled gcc 3.2 with the athlon flag the compiler might be broken if this flag doesn't work with my processor!? Am I right here or should the compiler be ok as long as I don't get any errors? |
If anybody else shoulg stumble about the same thing:
The compilerflag for duron is supposed to be athlon-tbird - works for me For newer durons (more than 1,1ghz) it's athlon-mx - couldn't check on that one. |
