gaim wont connect at all.

I just updated to gaim 1.5.0 from 1.1.4 and on trying to connect i get the error Invalid Proxy settings "either the host or port number speciefied for you given proxy type is invalid." The problem is I specified no proxy settings. I'm using a direct internet connection. I figured it might have been a compilation without the necessary support situation but i re checked and everything was there that i need, tcl, nss - nspr, ssl and audio, i think that was it. anyone got a clue whats my problem here, I'm aslo haviing a similar situation with my irc clients, Xchat for example will never connect to any server, so I'm figuring its some plugin or devel package of the sort that i'm missing.

Hi. Are you using SUSE? I also encountered the same problem when I tried to update from Gaim 1.14 (which is distributed on the SUSE cds) to Gaim 1.5. The installation from both the tarballs and the rpms built by others did not show any error but when Gaim is started, it is always unable to connect to any IM server.

Can anyone help us???

Thnx

Oooh. I finally got Gaim 1.5 to work properly. What you will need to do is to install the SUSE Gaim 1.14 package first using root. Then logoff root and into one of your other accounts and install the Gaim 1.50 autopackage file using that account. Strangely, it will fix the "can't connect error".

<EDIT> The steps above will only enable non-root accounts to run Gaim 1.5. If you want root accounts to be able to run it as well, copy the .gaim folder from your /home/user directory (where "user" is the account name of the non-root account) into your /root folder and choose the overwrite option when prompted.

My bad, i fixed this the same day i made the post

I forgot to comeback and post. it was actually a default preference that was causing the problem. somehow it had a proxy setup already and it was a fresh install [ wtf right, how did that get there ].. in any case, i'm happily iming on googletalk, msn, yahoo and aim :)
