gaim problems in menu

This is a strange problem but when I install gaim with different sources it shows up differently in the applications menu in Gnome. I have Fedora Core 3
tar.bz2 = Gaim instant messenger
autopackage = Gaim instant messenger
FC1 RPM = Gaim instant messenger
FC3 RPM = Im

I want gaim to stay as Gaim instant messenger but whenever I install any source besides the newest FC3 rpm it pesters me to update. How can I keep the gaim instant messenger entry in the applications menu?
