Angry GAIM illegal ????


i use the version of Gaim provide with the distribution Mandrake 8.0
i connect to AIM successfully
but after some minutes, i have the message that
i am disconnected because i use a soft wich isn't authorized
grrrr

Try getting a new version. It is perfectly legal, except that aol/yahoo/msn all try to block it (which is not nice, but legal). Gaim has frequent updates to get around these nasty folks.

What I don't get is why they don't want you using their service with Gaim, but it's perfectly acceptable to use it with their linux AIM client. Maybe if they ever updated the software, then we have a need for Gaim...

Because then they can have more power over you. Such as adding spyware to your machine if they choose, or installing pop-up advertising into their client.

It's a war between the consumers and the companies. That's just one way they fight the war. Other ways include copyfail protection on software you buy, and updates services that expire after a set amount of time.
