Gaim Icon on Kicker system tray taskbar
I have a simple question. Is there any way to replace the GAIM icon in the system tray?
Currently, all my icons have transparent backgrounds, except GAIM (which has an ugly grey square surrounding the systray icon) and I want to switch the systray icon to something that looks a bit better. Is there any easy way to just replace it? D |
Right click on the icon and select properties, then click on the icon in the properties window.

I dont think dezireduser is talking about the application icon on the shortcut bar. Its the icon in the system tray which gets activated when gaim is on. The other systray icons (like kicker or amarok) have transparent backgrounds, but not gaim. Any way to fix that?

Yes, exactly what valerie_tux said. Currently, this is a problem with the GAIM systray plugin (and Azureus as well). In the GAIM faq, it acknowledges this problem, but doesn't provide any details on how to fix it. Something to do with the flaw in the specs of the system tray implementation in the systray plugin for GAIM causes the background issue on KDE...
Here is a link to a screenshot to describe the problem better. Notice the grey background for the GAIM and Azureus icons? |
I understand now, sorry I misunderstood your question. Unfortunately, due to the statement quoted below, all I can offer is this, under preferences-> plugins, you can uncheck System Tray Icon. :(

If anyone finds out a way to actually point to a picture for the system tray icon plugin, let me know. It sucks that the background doesn't work properly, but it's really not THAT big of a deal to fix it for those of us who use a mostly solid color in their wallpaper. For example, the bottom of my wallpaper is all black, so all I have to do to fix gaim.png is color in the background from transparent to black. I just can't seem to point the plugin picture to my gaim-black-background.png new picture.
Maybe I'll try replacing the gaim.png and then restarting the computer to see if that works (btw, I've tried replacing gaim.png with my new picture then restarting gaim, that doesn't work). |
