gaim for gtalk

Hi all,
I configured gtalk with gaim according to the methods published by google. But it crashes everytime I send message to buddies. Also, I cannot start gaim at all except as root. This is weird. Is it related to gaim? I installed the newest version, still have the problem.
Any suggestion would be appreciated.

shouldn't be a problem. works for me. try re-reading the directions. maybe you missed something?

I have used it on gaim for Windows, Debian, and SUSE.
