Just downloaded the .tar.gz from the gAIM website, un gzip/tar'd it and opened the installation instructions - they instructed me to run the following commands (in order):
1) ./configure
2) make
3) make install
So, I ran configure which ran fine with no errors. However when I ran make, I got the following message:
[root@localhost gaim-1.1.3]# make
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.
Now, I'm just following the instructions so forgive me if I've made an obvious mistake (I am the ultranewb ), but I'd appreciate a little guidance ^^!
Yeah lol, I missed the error which was slapping me in the fact right at the end of the configure, it was the absence of GLIB. In order to resolve this, I downloaded GLIB version 2.6 and installed as directed by the instructions. However, when once again attempting to configure GAIM, I was presented again with the same error:
Code:
checking for GLIB - version >= 2.0.0... no
*** Could not run GLIB test program, checking why...
*** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for the
*** exact error that occurred. This usually means GLIB is incorrectly installed.configure: error:
*** GLib 2.0 is required to build Gaim; please make sure you have the GLib
*** development headers installed. The latest version of GLib is
*** always available at http://www.gtk.org/.
[root@localhost gaim-1.1.3]#
Obviously this is somewhat annoying, and I'd appreciate any input ?

Right, I've managed to make GLIB and ATK and I'm now onto Pango - another error!
For this one, I've no even remote clue on how to solve it so any guidance would be appreciated ...

Perhaps you should add the directory containing `fontconfig.pc'
