gaim behind proxy......
 

Hey all..
I was trying to use gaim v0.59.1 in Red Hat 8.0, i'm behind a proxy......
The exact error message is like this...
<username> has been signed off: Unable to read
I have tried with the $HOME/.bashrc file also...as in setting the var http_proxy... but no use yet...
I also wanted to know, how u input the user name and password for the proxy server in that file....

Have you added your proxy settings in the preferences dialog?
If yes, try to upgrade to the latest version of Gaim.

Yeah i have and only after confirming it, i tried all other tricks.....
I will try and upgrade to the .67 version of gaim....lets see if it works....

After facing lot of problems with gaim and glib etc, i have finally upgraded gaim to the latest version (0.67) and yes, the problem still remains...

Is this got to do something with the network proxy i set??

and can some one please let me know what is this whole thing about *squid* and how to configure it...

I'm actually really desparate to get any chat client working behind this dammed proxy...
