Unhappy gAIM & Yahoo

Did anyone notice that yahoo IM stopped working in gAIM today?

Is this how it is going to be from now on?

I also heard that 10/15 MSN will not be accesible htrough anything other than MSN messenger.

Should I just stop worrying about it now and assume I'll need 87 clients and never use MSN again?

thanks in advvance.

GAIM doesn't support SSL.. they may have added SSL requirements which would knock you off.

Yahoo / MSN

Yeah. Yesterday was the cutoff for Yahoo! client as far as upgrading to their latest supported version. I've been checking the GAIM site & whether or not they will release a patch was a little unclear.

MSN is also doing the same thing on the 15th like you said. I think we may be out of luck after that. I really hope GAIM gets something out soon.

It would be really nice if Trillian (www.trillian.cc) came out with a linux port for their client. They have great support and these problems have already been patched. Unfortunately it's a windoze only program as of yet... may be the one thing I miss from XP.

man - this sucks. I got the latest version of yahoo for unix and I can send messages, and the 'buddies' can see them, but I'm not getting their messages. And Gaim doesn't work.

Yeah Gaim does not work for Yahoo messenger any more. I recently switched to Linux and was bragging to my Windows friends about gaim and how well it worked with yahoo and msn! Does anyone knows any solution to this problem yet??

Thanks.

I guess it's the "back of the bus" for us Linux IM users again.

I am taking KevinJ's advice and looking for a client that works with SSL, yahoo compatible and I will post up when I find one.

Then we can play it again on the 15th of Oct when MSN does the same thing.

You could always just use Yahoo's messenger, the unix version. Works fine with me. But I'm like you I like software integration. GLIBC is screwing up with me, can't compile.

This is true but a temporary fix. 10/15 I will be unable to chat with any family or friends that bought into the whole MSN cult.

Plus who wants mulitple clients to do one thing? <sarcasm>I could always just start using windows again too. </sarcasm>

It is just frustrating is all. Why have international standards if we are just going to throw them out the window everytime a virus scares corporate america?

Well, my Yahoo is working again. I would prefer to use GAIM however.

I saw some analogy to cell phone use somewhere. It's like AT&T Wireless decided one day that you can't use their system anymore if you have a Verizon phone, or something like that.

(Sorry, I'm currently on drugs for a medical condition and I'm a bit dizzy due to an allergic reaction, I think.)

Marcel Gagne writes for Linux Journal.. his word is gospel. ; )

http://www.unixreview.com/documents/s=8472/sam0306web/

From the Kopete page, it looks like they have fixed the MSN thing that will hit people on Oct. 15... I still don't see anything there on Yahoo yet.

I think Yahoo has a "web messenger" which might work for you... and of course, there is always WINE. I use WINE to run mIRC at work because X-chat doesn't have some features I need.

FYI,

Trillian and GAIM .70 both released fixes today I believe. My windoze box at work had the hard drive fail today so I could not get on earlier to post.

Thanks for the follow up. I appreciated it.

I got the gaim 7.0 tar this morning but I couldn't get it to install. It's probably fine, and just something on my part, but now I'm w/o chat completely... woe is me.
