Angry gaim and dsniff

two software questions i couldnt find answers to by searching:

1) dsniff: there is and error on compile in slack9:

gcc -g -O2 -D_BSD_SOURCE -D_BSD_SOURCE -D__BSD_SOURCE -D__FAVOR_BSD -DHAVE_NET_ETHERNET_H -DLIBNET_LIL_ENDIAN -DDSNIFF_LIBDIR=\"/usr/local/lib/\" -I. -I/usr/local/include -I/usr/X11R6/include -I./missing -c ./record.c
record.c: In function `record_print':
record.c:65: warning: assignment makes pointer from integer without a cast
record.c:66: warning: assignment makes pointer from integer without a cast
record.c: In function `record_save':
record.c:130: `R_NOOVERWRITE' undeclared (first use in this function)
record.c:130: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
record.c:130: for each function it appears in.)
record.c:130: warning: passing arg 2 of pointer to function from incompatible pointer type
record.c:130: too few arguments to function
record.c: In function `record_dump':
record.c:143: structure has no member named `seq'
record.c:143: `R_NEXT' undeclared (first use in this function)
record.c: In function `record_init':
record.c:167: warning: assignment makes pointer from integer without a cast
record.c: In function `record_close':
record.c:206: too few arguments to function
make: *** [record.o] Error 1

i have no idea what i should do here.

2) gaim: this is not a compile problem. i was wondering if many people had this problem with gaim 0.64 (from the .tar.gz). basically if several people IM you or if you IM them then the gaim processes start building up. eventually there is several hundred gaim processes. ps -e reprots this and its kinda annoying. the only way to quit is to do a killall -9 gaim. but then you need to login again in order to get gaim started (and that means quitting X in the middle of your mp3). i think that normally when you im someone it fork() 's a process and then closes it but several im's mess it up. im no expert but could this be a bug?

thx

with GAIM, I've had it slow down for about 10 secs and not let me do anything wiht it, but I've never had to kill it from command line. As far as your other problem goes, I'm not sure.

That is the exact same error message I'm getting trying to compile dsniff on Mandrake 9.0. Did you ever find a resolution to your problem?

Thanks
Malcolm

yes actually i did and it took me some time....

first of all if you look in the faq for dsniff youll see theses exact messages and a ./configure flag that might fix it. try that first if it doesnt work then read below.

below:
www.groar.org/patch/english.shtml

have fun.

dsniff is very hard to compile, you need very very exact libs. I don't know wich one you're missing, just make sure you have DB (and there's also a link to add in /etc about it, don't really remember), libnet < 1.0.9, openssl-96d. installed on your system.

Thanks guys. The error was because berkeley db was not compiled with compat185. So I removed the Mandrake rpm and installed manually compiling berkeley db --with-compat185 option.

It's working now.

Thanks again

you shouldn't need to restart X or login again inorder to start GAIM. "gaim &" from an xterm should do the trick for you.
