Im running grub on a gentoo install.
Dual booting with windows XP.
XP is on the first hard drive, gentoo on the second
harddrive is hdb1=boot hdb2=root hdb3=swap

I can get to the selection screen and choose between either install.
My problem is that when i choogse gentoo the screen goes black for a half of a second then returns to the selection screen. However if i select windows it load fine.

Here is grub.conf.

default 0

timeout 10

splashimage=(hd1,0)/grub/splashimage.xpm.gz //which loads fine so i know that the drive address is fine

title=Gentoo

root=(hd1,0)
kernal /kernal-2.6-11-gentoo-r4 root=/dev/hdb2
//checked and sure that the file name is the same, grub doesnt complain that it cant find it?


title=Windows XP
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
makeactive
chainloader +1

edit: missplelled the title

"kernal" should be "kernel". Check that and make sure it is pointing to the correct filename. If it is, then the first "kernal" should be "kernel" anyway.

Just boot from the live cd, mount /boot, and check it out. You can also edit your grub.conf file that way, if you need to.

Also, it is case sensitive.
