Yep ... unix/linux commands often only give output if
something goes wrong (except for the ones that are
meant to be talking, like grep, top, free, and such :})

2. When I try locate amaya|grep \/bin I get:
"/usr/src/Amaya/amaya/bindent1.bmp
/usr/src/Amaya/amaya/bindent2.bmp"
Valid, but not what we wanted. :}

3. When I type make install|tee install.log I get:
"Nothing to be done for install" (note that I type this command in whatever directory I'm in whenever I open the console so I didn't go anywhere special to do it)
Go back to
cd /usr/src/Amaya/obj
and type the
make install|tee install.log
there ...

Tink

I assume this means I didn't activate the swap space. Do you know how I can activate it.
mkswap /dev/hdXY (X=a,b,c where ever the partition lives, Y=1,2,3,4... it's number)
If it is listed in /etc/fstab
swapon -a
will activate it.

With
swapon /dev/hdXY
you can set it active explicitly.

man mkswap
man swapon
for details...

Tink

OK I did that, it did a bunch of stuff, and then I tried amaya again, and it still wouldn't start. Now what?

locate amaya | grep bin

any other hits then the last time around?

If no, look at the log file... any errors?

Cheers,
Tink

i typed "locate amaya|grep bin" and got: the same thing as I said before

I typed "view install.log" and got a bunch of blue tildas on the left indicating a margin and the words "make: nothing to be done for install"

That's it. What's up?

thanks.
