from Terminal to GUI and other Q's

Hello,

I upgraded my linux mandrake from 8.0 to 10.2. When I start the PC it takes me right to the Terminal instead of the GUI!

I used Ctrl+Alt+F1-7 but couldn't switch to the GUI.

another quick question since I couldn't find it in the tutorial niether the forum.

I am Using GAG to load either WinXP in a one hard disk or Mandrake which is in another hard disk. GAG was able too see Windows, but couldn't see Mandrake. I believe that I have to install Lilo in the root, currently it is on the mbr of the mandrake HD only, so can anyone give me a link for installation direction?

thanks in advance.

You booted into RunLevel 3 so you need to start the x service before using Ctrl+Alt+F1-7 Login and type:

startx

Also if your GAG did not recognize your MDK install how did you get to the CLI interface?

ok, now i have even worse problem.

when GAG started, i was able to find Linux, but when i chose it and try to boot into Linux it says (Sector boot not found or invalid) is this due to Lilo not installed in the /root directory? while installing mandrake do i have to chose ( install Lilo on root instead of mbr?)

after that, I disconnected the Windows HD to boot into Linux, this is the only way for me to use Linux, anyway, that blue screen came and the last line said the following:

Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init = option to kernel

NOTE: i didn't change any settings or deleted any files, but don't know what went wrong with it!

after doing a search here and read similler problems. i think that "something" wasn't able to execute and kernel wasn't able to run without it thats why it didn't work and freeze at that point. is that right?

ok, after that, I re entered CD1 for linux mandrake 10.1 and installed it all over again, but the same problem ocurred again!

what is CLI interface?

thanks a lot for your patience and help.

Best Regards,
Ahmed.

I don't know if this is worth a try but log into the terminal as root and type init 5. It may work...
