Fresh Suse 9.1 trying to install VMWare 4.5.1 - Unable to copy the source file
Hello-
I'm running Suse 9.1 and have just installed PERL 5.8.4.810 to run the VMWare installation program. I open a command line as root and run the installer. The installer then asks me some questions. I answer the questions the installer asks with [enter] These are the questions: { In which directory do you want to install the binary files? [/usr/bin] (i hit enter) What is the directory that contains the init directories (rc0.d/ to rc6.d/)? [/etc/init.d] (i hit enter) What is the directory that contains the init scripts? [/etc/init.d] (i hit enter) Unable to copy the source file ./installer/services.sh to the destination file /etc/init.d/vmware. Execution aborted. } I'm brand new to linux and running things from the command line. So, i was wondering if anyone could take a guess as to what i need to do to make this work. Thanks, DeathCab for 2D |
You need to su to root before running the installation script, because the script needs to write to system directories.

I'm doing all this from a super user terminal loged in as 'root'. If i need to use the "su" command i don't know how other than to actually switch users by loging out and loging in as root. What else do you need to know so you can help.
