freeware unformat/undelete utility


does anyone know any free linux utilities that can unformat or recover files from a fat32 drive?

I would use a tool like HELIX to do that..

Certain tools on that CD like the following might work for you..

foremost : Carve files based on header and footer.
fatback : Analyze and recover deleted FAT files.
Retriever : Find pics/movies/docs/web-mail.
Scalpel : Carve files based on header and footer.

helix allows me to recover deleted files, but not ones lost from a drive format. I've found other utilities to see the files, but the companies want outragous prices.

still not what i need. I found a program called Active Uneraser. does anyone know any freeware apps similar and capability and power?

Go with a live CD that has testdisk installed. testdisk can recover files from formatted disks with it's photorec program.
