freevo makes mplayer ineffecient
I have been messing with different vo's for mplayer which is used by freevo to play movies. I want to use a setup that is easiest on my processor. To determine the best vo to use, i have been watching my cpu usage using top, while trying different vo's. I noticed when I run mplayer indirectly by using freevo, the mplayer process is using nearly twice the cpu capacity then when playing mplayer directly(not through freevo.
example If I run the command mplayer -vo gl2 <movie-file> using top, the mplayer process will show 30% cpu usage. If I watch that same movie , but start it by choosing it through the menu in freevo, the mplayer process will show 50-60%, almost double. I also have mplayer with freevo set to use the same vo. I have duplicated these results with many differnt vo's. Always nearly double the cpu capacity is required when I am using freevo to start mplayer. Why , or how could freevo cause mplayer to run so inefficiently? Better yet how could I fix it? |
