Free86X
Hi
Firstly how do I tell what version of Free86X i am running. Then where do I get the software packages to upgrade to the latest version. I am running Red Hat 9. I am using the Red Hat updater but I suspect that there might be an even more up to date version out there. As I found with Mozilla Red Hat doesn't always give you the very latest versions of software packages. aidankitch |
try rpm -Q xfree86
should return the version you have installed. Perhaps it is a small -q, it's been a while since I have used rpm. |
It's XFree86. If there is no newer RPM from Red Hat, I think it's best to stick with what you have. Installing newer version manually can get you in real trouble when you later try upgrading with the Red Hat software again, unless you really know what you are doing.
The most recent stable version of XFree86 is currently 4.3.0. To check which version you have run: XFree86 -version XFree86 usually resides in /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 (at least on my Slackware box). |
Run:
XFree86 -version at the command line. Lyle |
redhat 9 has the newest version of XFree86
