Hi, I'm looking for a ERP software for a small time transport/courier company. I've already looked at webERP and openERP both, although good, are not much suited for transport/courier cos. I'm looking to implement it for sales, Finance and operations dept. Most of the ERP I've looked at have the first two modules (as they are common for every kind of business under the sun) but the third dept i.e. operations for transport/courier is where it gets difficult.

From operations point of view, I'd like to be able to record the bookings and meta data about the bookings like details of the shipment, charges, consignee and consignor details, delivery date, track their movements, etc.

Can anyone suggest me any free open source ERPs which can be more suited to my requirement if not the perfect fit for the bill. I'm asking for free because at this point of time the company cannot afford a tailor made ERP system.

Your best bet would be checking out OpenERP's and Openbravo's extensions/modules library.

A word of warning though - badly implemented ERP systems literally destroyed companies in the past. If you are hoping for an out-of-the-box solution I'm afraid the chances are you'll end up very frustrated. A couple of years ago I was involved in evaluating potential ERP systems for a company I was working for. It took us over half a year to pick and we decided against all major open source vendors, including OpenERP (version 5 at the time), Openbravo, Adempiere and 3 others - mostly because all of them would have required far too much in terms of development and support.
