fps question
I just installed redhat 9 and finally got the 3d to work for my radeon 9700pro... i used glxgears and managed to get a score of only 60fps! everyone else is posting like 2000 with geforce 2's and 3's i should be well above that with my card right??? i tried using glxinfo but that was just gobblygunk to me because i'm really new to linux!
i'm running : p4 2.4b, msi mainboard 648 radeon9700pro 256mb ddr pc2100 2 x 40gB maxtor ata133 hd's ... also i'm using a generic 'future power' el crappo 19" monitor at 1280x1024 resolution... i would like to install winex really soon but i'm not going to try until i can get decent performance out of my computer. thanks for the help, Kevin |
It doesnt sound like you have 3D acceleration going if you are only acheiving 60 FPS with glxgears.

Hallo.
I have also tested with glxgears : with Athlon XP 1600+ and Radeon 9000 XFree86-4.3.0 - driver : 1000 FPS fglrx-glc22 : 1500 FPS with Athlon C 1300 and GeForce 2 Ti nvidia-driver : 3200 FPS It seems that Ati has poor drivers. Tom |
can you put the output of glxinfo on the forum? im pretty sure we could deduce from that if you have 3d-accel

well things went bad to worse... i was getting 300 frames in 5 seconds : 60fps... which is way below par i realized...
well i restarted my computer after 'trying' to install winex and going into my non root account... well all of a sudden my 3d is totally off. I've tried getting it back to working and have been unsuccessful. I installed drivers, did all the ./make and ./make_install.sh stuff and ran fglrxconfig... NOTHING is working. My only idea is that maybe my south bridge isn't very happy with me ? I have a MSI 648 mainboard (963l southbridge which is for some reason undetected). I've tried going into the XF86Config-4 file and editing the vga part to fglrx, but that always changes back as well.... ARRRRGGGGGGG i'm so frustrated and need to get winex working for some projects by saturday night. If anyone can help me i'd call you my new subject of worship and bow down to your precense! If there is anything specific else you'd like to know, please tell me. SYSTEM: p4 2.4b on msi 648 256mB ddr266 2x40 gB ata133 hd's ati 9700pro Thanks again, Kevin |
can you use 3d hardware accel while you are root?
