Unhappy Fortune on after login

How can I display a quote from Fortune after a user is logged in (locally). I know it's something with /etc/rc.d/rc.local, but when I add
Code:
/usr/games/fortune
there, it doesn't display anything
So how can I fix thing?

thanks

I did this last week, I editted the file

.bash_profile and added /usr/games/fortune there.

Works for me.

Do that, it will give you the quote when you open a terminal also.

I don't know...it works for me.

your console should be running your .bash_profile whenever it comes up.

Did you edit the .bash_profile file in your home directory? ie: /home/username?

yes, the quote shows up when I open my console (I mean for example 'control F1') or when I log in with SSH or Telnet. But NOT when I open my terminal emulation program in X (Gnome).

Weird ...

yes weird...because for me, it does show up...I can open 6 or 7 Eterm consoles and I see a different fortune.

Although I just checked...if I use RXVT, it doesn't...so it looks like the TYPE of console you use matters...try Eterm to see.
