Formatting disks again . . .
 

I have an old Compaq laptop with a 4 gig disk that I want to put redhat on.


The laptop had win2k on it (not sure if the disk was fat16/32 or NTFS prolly fat) -I formatted the disk - then fdsisked it but after I fdisk it the disk shows up as 100% full and I can't write anything to it.


Any suggestions as to what I've done wrong?

what o/s is on the laptop now? if you're just putting only redhat on it, then i don't think you needed to fdisk it in the first place.

There is no OS - and I can't access the C: partition

just boot up with the redhat boot disk.. it should detect the drive if its full or empty and it will just load over whatever is there, formatting and so on...

Yes I would do that but Redhat won't recognise the CDROM or NIC

create a boot disk(floppy).... and install from there.. it should detect your cdrom when it wants to install the packages.. and if it doesn't there are ways around it..

how do you want to install redhat was your original question or idea right ??

once installed.. you can configure your nic most likely..
