Trying to get my Lexmark Z23 to work w/ SuSE using foomatic's program(s) (foomatic and lexmark foomatic) and it's running me ragged. The author assumes I know lots more than I do about paths and spools and such. Guess I need a step-by-step guide. Any suggestions? Or get out my manuals and figure it out the hard way? -- john
Nifty, I've got the same printer... hooked up to a SuSe machine oddly enough, although I just configured it (poorly) through Yasty... Who is this foomatic, where do I find him, and can you compile that on a Sparc?
Finegan (Finnegan?),
Foomatic is found on the LinuxPrinters website, and the answer to my query is found in the text pages that come w/ the Foomatic program. You'll also need the Lexmark 23/33 Foomatic (see the Printers database for this). At least I THINK the answer is there. Wish me more luck and cheers.
Well guys, I finally gave up on the Lexmark and followed the advice at LinuxPrinters and bought a C80. Switched my SuSE to CUPS, installed GimpPrint (after visiting several sites for info and downloads) and by gorsh, it works! Most helpful sites gave complete directions for us beginners in Linux. No need to give more info; the process I went through provides some good lessons. Bye. --john
