Hi all,
I have been trying to get my fonts just right for a long time now and have just picked up on it again. In order to figure out exactly what is going on, I have commented out all FontPath lines in my xorg.conf to leave only 'misc' and 'msttcorefonts'. I have compiled freetype2 from source, enabling the bytecode interpretor and have run both mkfontdir and mkfontscale in the msttcorefonts dir.
Now as far as I can tell, when I tell my gaim to use Verdana, it will have to use the verdana located in msttcorefonts, as that is the only one I have provided. I have set my DisplaySize in the xorg.conf to the correct size of my screen as I know that bad DPI calculations can cause font problems. My fonts are really screwed up, see the screen shot
HERE, which was taken using xmag to zoom into xfontsel (the font is microsoft sans serif). As you can see, it appears that the font is being wrongly scaled, but no matter how many times I run mkfontscale, mkfontdir, fc-cache etc. I can't get them to look right.
Can anyone solve my font woes?
Cheers,
Jon
