Font and Acrobat Reader problems in Redhat 9.0

After having my system upgraded from Redhat 7.2 to Redhat 9.0, Acrobat Reader just couldn't be started! Everytime I tried to start it, it reported a warning: charset "UTF-8" not supported, using "ISO8859-1", then it just aborted with a core dump. What's going on?

BTW, I found the text displayed in my system (like in netscape and ghostview) is extremely ugly---with a very low resolution, looks not very sharp. I tried changing the font setting, but it remains. Should I change the monitor's resolution?

Thanks for any input!

Hi,

did you install the acrobat reader rpm for redhat9? Or are you just using the same binaries that you used to use earlier? That might be the problem. Try http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat....i386.rpm.html

Your problem with the fonts is probably that they are not antialiased. Don't use netscape, use mozilla or firebird. You'll get beautiful fonts In ghostview make sure to set the antialiasing option. Or use ggv (gnome gv).
