the transparency m,odifying depends on the version you are running of fluxbox. With the stock fluxbox coming with slack 10, its called menu alpha (or alfa, dun remember anymore) in the settings portion of the menu. In newer releases its called transparency..
About the menu width, there seems to be no config option for it, and none of the styles I have seem to have anything resembling a setting for it, so my guess would be that its based on the width of the entries in it. Atleast it can go wider than the default if you have wide entries. Ofcourse you can contrl the width by changing the font / font size used in your current style.

Newer releases? I'm using 0.9.12 which is the latest version and it calls it alpha, not transparency. Incidentally, fluxbox supports the composite extension offered by X.org 6.8 which leads to some great effects such as having the focused window opaque, the unfocused windows 50% transparent and using xcompmgr to fade nicely from one to the other when you click
strange, as my fluxbox-0.9.12-i486-1 sure calls it transparency in the config menu.. has a nice menu item called Transparency that has then options for the different areas.. Maybe you are using your old menu from an older version?

Nope, this is the only version I installed since wiping my disk and reinstalling slack a few weeks ago. Perhaps the two are interchangable? I did add the alpha lines manually after reading how to get xcomposite support somewhere online...
well, my advice is, download the latest version from your local slackware mirror.. The transparency has improved alot since your version, and there are several usability fixes that are worth the upgrade.
its a feature, not a bug.. (; Allready answered in that other thread of yours.. And annoying feature yes, but nothing a little automation cant handle..
