fluxbox slit question
Hi.
I'm messing around with my installation right now, I've got the lastest version of fluxbox installed. My question is about docking apps in the slit. For some strange reason, when a program docks itself, it goes down to the bottom right side of the screen instead of into the slit like it should. Also, the programs won't dock themselves unless I'm running a program called docker, even though I compiled fluxbox with --enable-kde. In fact, it looks kind of like it's opening up a second slit when a program docks.... anything I'm doing wrong? thx |
Where do you want your slit? By default, I believe the slit IS in the lower right corner. Check your config, though. Rt-click the desktop - Fluxbox - Configure - Slit - Placement. Or check the value of 'session.screen0.slit.placement:' in ~/.fluxbox/init.

The slit by default is in the bottom center. I'm not having any problem placing the slit, my question is about applications being docked into the slit.

I think you're confusing the slit with the toolbar. The toolbar is in the bottom center by default. That's the bar that has the clock on one end, the current workspace on the other, and icons for the open apps in the middle. The slit is just a space that's designated for docked apps, and by default it's in the lower right corner. You can read about it here:
http://fluxbox.org/docbook/en/html/c604.html I don't know about docker, but if it docks the apps in the toolbar, and that's what you want, then run it. Enjoy! --- Cerbere |
Sounds like your confusion may stem from the new development feature, that supporting (only GTK?) apps can use a system tray next to the new iconbar, which both reside in the toolbar. Not all apps support this, so some may still go into the normal slit. :)

Thanks a lot. You're right, I was confusing the slit with the toolbar...funny thing is that I looked through the documentation on Fluxbox's site and didn't notice that first bit until now.
I saw a pic of some apps docked into someone's toolbar in a screenshot and that's what I'm trying to figure out how to do. Thanks again for the help. |
I've seem the shots of Gaim and some other app having it's icon in either the toolbar or the slit. I'm certain that's the new system tray support in the latest devel releases (0.9.6-pre1+?), but I dont use Gaim, and cant test the latest cvs atm.
Until you dock something in the slit and then right click around it to get the slit menu, you might get very confused as to what it is. :D |
Proud: lol ...thanks, gaim is exactly what I want to have docked in the toolbar. I will give the cvs a go and see how it works out.

Try 0.9.6-pre1, as the pre2/CVS has been buggy for me, but pre1 is very stable indeed. :)
Edit: Ooh, pre3 is out at http://fluxbox.org/download/  |
screen shots?

You want screen shots? Erm, it's a window manager... it looks however you theme it, and screenshots dont show 100% of features do they. Try the Fluxbox site though, there's many there, or just try it (with a pixmap theme like mine linked below). :)
