Fluxbox
I have seen some friends using fluxbox on their PCs, i wanted to try it myself, anyone care to recomend a distro that comes with fluxbox?

www.vectorlinux.com
Start with the new 5.0-rc1 iso as it comes with Fluxbox. http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/...linux-5.0/iso/ I currently run Fluxbox on 5.0 SOHO. Of course you can install 'flux' on 'any' distribution ... |
great, thanks
|
yeah, i know you can, but i have an older computer that has nothing on it right now, i wanted something lite
|
Well vector seems to be great on older computers.
If you want to steer clear of KDE and it's libraries, then try your luck with the new 5.0. However, it is a beta - so it will have bugs. Installing fluxbox on 5.0 SOHO is as easy as 'slapt-get --install fluxbox' daniel |
downloaded and installed, but i didnt see fluxbox anywhere.... -frowns- KDE and gnome i did find
|
An easy distro that you can choose fluxbox no problem would be Slackware. Just don't install gnome, kde, or anything else you don't want/need. Then at the configuration select fluxbox as your window manager, configure X, make a general user, and you are running.

aw come on, i just installed Vector linux, someone tell me what i need to do please?

You wouldn't have had 'gnome' as a choice - it's not really supported by Vector or Slackware.
So you installed SOHO 5.0? And your choices of Window Managers is IceWM and KDE? Well click on the 'vlapt' icon on the desktop and select a Vector Linux repository. http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/...en.html#source Then go to 'update' then 'install' and type 'fluxbox'. Install Fluxbox and the recommended packages (like fluxbox-themes etc.) and then log out of your current window manager and select 'Fluxbox' or 'Fluxbox + Desktop' from the KDM login screen. Daniel |
it said under the list of packages to install : [ ] Gnome
|
but yes, my windows manager choices were iceWM and KDE
|
okay, fluxbox is installed
