Flash player hangs in Firefox in Mandriva 2008

Hi. I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem. I've followed the instructions for getting the Firefox flash plugin to work in a 64-bit environment. Whenever I go to a site with flash content, the player starts up but never gets past the buffering stage (on youtube, for example, all I see is the player with the rotating highlighted circles). It's flash player 9 with Firefox 2.0.0.16. I don't have any iptables rules defined and there's nothing in the log and no error messages in the shell window (if I launch firefox from a shell).

Appreciate any suggestions.

did u restart firefox afterwards?

try clearing the cache/cookies, etc.. and retrying your request again...

Have installed both ways and tried clearing cache, cookies in Firefox - no dice. Interestingly enough, flash player under konqueror does exactly the same thing.

Thanks anyway.

It might not be the plugin itself. The stand-alone flash player does pretty much the same thing and I get the following warnings on the console.

WARNING: environment variable G_FILENAME_ENCODING set and it is not UTF-8
(flashplayer:12413): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "ia_ora",

I use a 32bit OS, and flash works fine for me, so it may be a problem on only 64bit machines of which I've heard had numerous problems with flash... it was suggest installing a 32bit version of FF instead of a 64bit one to of course use the flash properly.

I was using the 32-bit version (with npwrapper). Today I tried switching to gnash. It doesn't work either. The log had some interesting errors (see sample below). I'm beginning to wonder if the problem is actually with the browser's Javascript interpreter - currently everything is enabled.
