The first thing I would do is type
Code:

about:plugins
in your browser URL window and see if the list includes Flash.

Are you running a 64 bit install?

skie_knite007 05-21-2006 04:11 AM

no juz the i386. The install worked for all the previous versions of fedora . It did well on Mandriva 2006 too. The firefox version I'm using is 1.5.0.1

Kethinov 05-21-2006 04:16 AM

How did you attempt the installation?

skie_knite007 05-21-2006 04:52 AM

I copied the files libflashplayer.so and flashplayer.xpt to the folder /usr/lib/firefox x.x/plugins/

Firefox provides its own method of installing Flash you know. Try undoing all of that, then simply going to a site that uses Flash. You should get a dialog that pops up talking about missing plugins. You can "find missing plugins" then download and install Flash for you automatically right from that dialog.

I tried that too,,,,,,,,, and It shows installation successful.

But ,again I'm not able to view flash animations. Its showing missing plugins.

I downloadwd t latest version of firefox and tried to install flasplayer in that too, but same problem,. So the problem is with FC5.

I run firefox frm terminal, its showing exceptions like

[root@localhost firefox]# ./firefox
LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /home/skyknight/Firefox Downloads/firefox/plugins/libflashplayer.so [/home/skyknight/Firefox Downloads/firefox/plugins/libflashplayer.so: cannot restore segment prot after reloc: Permission denied]
LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /home/skyknight/Firefox Downloads/firefox/plugins/libflashplayer.so [/home/skyknight/Firefox Downloads/firefox/plugins/libflashplayer.so: cannot restore segment prot after reloc: Permission denied]

I'm running as root. So how can be the permission denied.

Hi, I'm not on FC5 right now (it's been weeks since I don't use it), but did you try this?

It's a problem with SELinux, if I'm not wrong.

loda117 05-24-2006 01:17 AM

well i am working with suse 10.1 and i had a problem i had to first extract the downloaded file into a separate directory and then inside that directory there was file called flashplayer-installer so basically i installed it in the terminal under *su and then it installed fine except for i had to direct it to my firefox's directory to install plugins there. which was under /usr/lib/firefox i never worked with FC so i wouldnt know how different it is from KDE but try this way

Hi folks,
The problem was with the SE linux. When I disabled the SE linux in FC5, its working. Can anybody help me in finding out which specific function in SE linux is preventing the Flash player to work.

Thanx in advance.
